Hawaiian Flamingo Birthday

I can now add flamingo to the short list of fondant/gumpaste animals I’ve tried out. I was so intimidated by this one at first. The long skinny neck and wire thin legs had me a little stumped in the beginning. However, as usual, a little internet research solved that. The neck just had to be handled delicately and a couple toothpicks painted pink worked as legs as well as a sturdy way to hold the flamingo in the cake.

I used peony cutters for the petals and cut out the centers free hand to make them more reminiscent of hibiscus flowers.
A fun, quick project for a little girl’s birthday!
